  • The surroundings in which directional drilling companies conduct their operations are exposed to all kinds of weather variations, high temperatures, low temperatures, direct sunlight, and constant state of vibration.  Nothing in that environment ever stands still.  All directional drilling equipments are required to synergistically work together to ensure success.  If any components were to fail to work at any time, then the whole production will also be unable to function.  The ramifications of a failed MWD system are extensive.  If a computing system stops working, that means expensive reparations as well as costly fees that must be paid each time the work at the rig stops.  For example, if the work stopped for a few hours, that would result in people not only not getting paid, but actually having to pay additional fees to cover the losses.  This is clearly a financially sensitive situation, so it is all the more important for each rugged computer to work under any circumstance. 

    To address the challenges faced today by directional drilling companies, Acura Embedded Inc. employed an innovative approach in its computing system design to ensure efficiency and durability of its clients’ MWD surface system.   The AcuPanel15 HB system is designed with Anodized Aluminum Alloy chassis, 1000 NITS Sunlight Readable screen, and with IP65 back and front washable feature.  This unique system design features a whole body heat dissipation system and internal heat isolation structure, which enable the system to operate between the extreme temperatures of -40C to 60C with no requirements of heater or fan.  Among its other certifications like CE, FCC, cUL, CSA, IECEX, and ATEX, it has also successfully undergone C1D2 testing which enables clients to use it in locations prone to explosions. 

    As this innovative system design requires no heater or fan, it helps to significantly reduce maintenance costs while increasing system durability.  Its modular system structure renders this rig-ready computer the resilience to withstand shaking and falling materials, the capacity to remain intact and fully functional in spite of humid conditions, and more.  Acura’s Canadian-made computing systems have successfully anticipated the needs and addressed the challenges and safety requirements of various off-shore and on-shore oil and gas applications, directional drilling, fracking, MWD surface systems, rig operation monitoring, etc.

    The RoughNeck-15 is a Class 1 Division 2 Certified, 15 Inch  Industrial Grade Surface System. With a lightweight and extremely durable Class 1 Division 2 / Zone 2IP65, CE, and FCC Certified Aluminum Body and Frame. Using an Intel 6th Gen CPU, it provides high and reliable performance without the need for external or internal heaters or fans from -40°C to +60°C, as well as an optional UPS system from -40 to +85C.
