Kennametal Signs Multimillion-Dollar Distribution Agreement with Gardner Denver for KennaFlow Valve Seats

    • Under the agreement, Gardner Denver becomes an authorized distributor of Kennametal’s innovative, long-lasting seats for hydraulic fracturing operations

    • Solid tungsten carbide KennaFlow valve seats deliver up to ten times the life of steel seats–reducing downtime costs and safety risks associated with change-outs

PITTSBURGH & HOUSTON, (May 6, 2019) – Kennametal Inc. (NYSE: KMT), a global leader in material science, tooling and wear-resistant solutions, announced today that it has signed a multimillion-dollar distribution agreement for its KennaFlow valve seats with Gardner Denver, a leading global provider of industrial equipment and related parts and services to oil and gas and other markets. Under the agreement, announced at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas, Gardner Denver becomes a Kennametal authorized distributor of KennaFlow long-lasting, solid tungsten carbide seats for fracturing pumps.

“We know that downtime in the field is expensive to our customers, so we engineered KennaFlow seats to deliver up to ten times the component life of steel seats,” said Ron Port, Vice President, Kennametal Inc. and President, Infrastructure Business Segment. “It’s game-changing technology, and we’re pleased to partner with Gardner Denver to bring Kennametal innovation to our global customers.”

“At Gardner Denver, we’re in the business of delivering solutions that help solve our customers’ biggest operational challenges,” said Greg Hash, Vice President of Engineering, Gardner Denver Pumps. “Longer wear KennaFlow seats are a huge leap forward in flow technology for fracking, and we’re proud to partner with Kennametal to bring these to the oil and gas market.”

Valves and seats are mission critical components in hydraulic fracturing pumps. As the intensity of frac service increases and the timing between stages decreases, there is growing demand for components that provide superior abrasion resistance and longer life. KennaFlow seats achieve operating life of up to 1100 hours compared to traditional steel seat operating life of approximately 100 hours, reducing expensive downtime due to change-outs. KennaFlow seats feature a full open seat design, improved geometry and optimized dimensions to better meet industry needs.

Kennametal has been serving customers in the upstream oil and gas sector for over 40 years with innovative solutions for downhole tools, drilling components, flow control, metalworking tooling and other surface products.

  • Kennametal Stellite Components
Stellite components from the people who invented Stellite!
We have been solving wear problems for more than 100 years!...

  • MWD / LWD components such as Turbines / Impellers, Flow Straighteners, Stators, Erosion Inserts, Turbine Sleeves, and many others benefit from the wear properties solid Stellite™ castings can deliver.

Kennametal Stellite offers a range of casting processes to deliver these components in shapes and configurations that allow engineers to maximize their design potential.  Precision investment & vacuum casting is ideal for intricately shaped components and produces high net-shape parts with good as-cast surface finishes, minimizing machining requirements.  Rapid prototyping allows engineers to trial their designs at a minimum of time and expense.  Centrifugal casting is also offered for producing high-quality tubular blanks with fine, uniform grain structure.

Our in-house, fully equipped machine shop is set up specifically to finish components in our materials.

  • Stellite Hardfacing Powders/Rods/Wires/Electrodes
Stellite materials from the inventors of Stellite materials!
Welding rod, wire, electrodes, and powders in Co, Ni, and Fe base alloys and blends....

  • Our weld hardfacing powders, rods, electrodes, and cored wires are concentrated in the cobalt, nickel, and iron-base material families we know very well.  After all, we invented many of these materials!

Our gas and water atomized powders are available in cuts for most processes, including HVOF, PTA, Laser Welding, and Additive Manufacturing.

In the Oil and Gas segment, our materials are most often used to protect components and systems from abrasion and corrosion, including at elevated temperatures.  Drill bit overlays, drill string wear banding, jar and kick hardfacing, and valve and pump trim hardfacing are all examples of where our materials are used.

Our experts will help you to identify the best material and process for your specific wear or corrosion issues.

  • Stellite alloy 6B (AMS5894) Bar and Sheet
Stellite alloy 6B is available in bar and flat sheet, or as fully machined components to your drawing.

  • Stellite™ alloy 6B offers significantly better wear properties when compared to materials such as Inconel 718, Inconel 625 or 17-4PH while maintaining good mechanical properties and ductility.

Stellite™ alloy 6B has become the material of choice in a number of challenging down-hole applications where a balance of strength and enhanced wear properties are required.  The hot-forging process used to produce Stellite™ alloy 6B ensures that toughness is not sacrificed for wear resistance.
