  • The PB series process bar displays help visualize data on an easy-to-read display
    and reveal important information to plant personnel.

    PATTISON, Texas – Microflex, LLC recently launched its Pixel Signs PB series process bar displays, which make it easy to monitor virtually any process data. The new signal towers were developed as a low cost, easy-to-use alternative to magnetic level indicators, which utilize floats and flipping magnetic flags to track a fluid level. Microflex's electronic bar displays use multicolor LEDs to provide a highly configurable gauge that can be used to visualize almost any process data value.

    “We developed the bar display as a lower cost, more reliable alternative to the magnet flag type level indicators,” said Kevin Cessac, President of Microflex, LLC. “We have found many other applications for this highly configurable display.”

    PB displays scale and filter process values to fit an easy-to-read bar format at up to 1% resolution. Having two bars on the same display allows for comparing two values such as setpoint vs. measured value. Or, both bars may be used presenting a single value to maximize viewing distance. The vivid bar graph indicator uses high intensity red, green, and blue LEDs, which are perfect for dimly lit locations. The unique pixel shutter design makes the display viewable outdoors even in bright sunlight.

    The new process bar displays are configured using a Windows-based PC attached to the display USB port. Microflex offers a free download of the PB configurator app software on its website. The new type of bypass level indicators supports Modbus RTU protocol, RS-232 or RS-485, and include two analog ports for direct connections to sensors or loop transmitters. They may also be used to measure time intervals and count events. Digital inputs can be set to start, stop, pause, or reset the timers or counters.

  • PB100Pixel Signs process bar displays make it easy to visualize process data on large dynamic easy to read LED bar graphs with up to 1% resolution. Bar pixels are high intensity red/green/blue programmable LEDs, 4096 possible colors. Each pixel is projected on to a film-coated rear-projection glass screen, highly viewable outdoors in direct bright sunlight as well as dimly lit indoor locations. 

    Two bars allow you to compare values at a glance side-by-side. Compare a setpoint or target to a process value such as tank fill level vs. measured tank level, temperature setpoint vs. actual temperature, or valve setpoint vs. valve position. The two bars can also be set to use the same data point appearing as one wide bar for maximum viewing distance or visual impact. 

    Each bar (left or right) is independently configurable. Choose display type, colors, and input sources. Use the same or different input sources and the same or different display types for each bar. 

    Display types can be a bars, stacked bars, background scales, or annunciators showing up to 8 coil on/off states per side.

    Stacked bars shows two values overlapped on the same bar. Useful for comparing two values on the same bar such as oil level floating on top of a water level in a tank. 

    Background scale bar displays allow you to configure the bar display background colors to show normal and out-of-range areas. Set a safe area with a green background and out-of-range with a red background for example. The value pixel will overlay the background scale.

    Annunciator displays show the on-off state of up to 16 coils, 1 to 8 per side. Use Modbus coil values or set IN-1, IN-2 to use switches, buttons, or voltages to control states. 

    The displays input sources can be from Modbus registers, voltage/current, timers, or events counters. 

    For Modbus the values to display are saved in 16-bit integer registers or 32-bit floating point register pairs. Communications link can be Modbus RS-232 or RS-485, master or slave. As a Modbus master the display will poll external Modbus device(s). As a slave the external Modbus master writes to the displays registers. The display will continuously read the registers, apply scaling gains and offsets, filter, and update the bar pixels. Each bar can use a different or the same registers.

    Voltage inputs applied to IN-1, IN-2 is digitized and saved into a display register. Current loop devices can be measured by adding a resistor, typically 250 ohms, across the IN-1, IN-2 analog input. Each bar can use a different or the same display source and each is scaled and filtered separately.

    Display a progress time using the internal timer as the display source. Timers increment every 0.01 seconds and the count is stored in a 32-bit register pair. Max time count is over 298 days. Reverse the scale to produce a bar display that counts down in time. IN-1, IN-2 can be set as digital inputs to start, pause, or reset the timers. Modbus coil registers are also available to control the timers using Modbus commands.

    Display event count pulses using IN-1, IN-2 set to digital inputs. An internal 32 bit counter is incremented using the digital inputs. Scale the counter to count up or down. IN-1, IN-2 can be set as digital inputs to start, pause, or reset the timers. Modbus coil registers are also available to control the timers using Modbus commands.

    Displays can be configured as a Modbus slave or master. As a Modbus master the display will continuously read specific Modbus registers to be displayed. Modbus floating point, 16-bit integer, and coils are supported. As a Modbus slave simply write to the display registers and the display will filter and scale your data at 10 updates per second. Modbus coil data can be displayed as annunciators with up to 8 annunciators per side.

    Enable the minimum/maximum pixel tick-marks to track minimum/maximum values for applications where its important to view measured value limits. The ticks track the displayed value to show the lowest and highest values displayed. Visually indicate the lowest and/or highest temperatures measured for example. Min/max tick values are reset by writing to a specific Modbus coil register. Reset can also be configured to use one of the displays IN-1, IN-2 digital inputs allowing a remote button, switch, or some other event to reset the tick-mark values.

    Enable over-range and/or under-range ticks to visually indicate when the measured value is too high (over-range) or too low (under-range) for the bar displays range.

    Bars can be configured to function as a signal tower light or state annunciator showing on/off states for 1 to 8 points for each side for a total of 16 points. Choose from up to 4096 possible colors. On/off states are mapped to a Modbus register so writing to the register updates all of the states. Two of the annunciator states can be controlled by the displays digital inputs - configurable to be active high or active low.
