  • TWINSBURG, OH (May 2019) — Pepperl+Fuchs, known for its leading explosion protection products, will showcase process automation solutions for the oil and gas industry at the 2019 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC). Find Pepperl+Fuchs at booth #4261 in Hall A of the NRG Center.

    From May 6 to 9, Pepperl+Fuchs will be highlighting solutions such as the new Bebco EPS® 7500 Type Z/Ex pzc purge and pressurization system, the Zone1/21 VisuNet IXD HMI featuring VisuNet RM Shell 5 firmware, Viator® HART modems, a new HART communicator kit featuring ProComSol software, GUB and EJB Ex d/explosion-proof enclosures, K-System interface technology, and Type 4X/Division 2 suitable, ATEX/IECEx-rated cable glands.

    Bebco EPS 7500 Purge and Pressurization System

    The new Pepperl+Fuchs Bebco EPS Type Z/Ex pzc 7500 series purge and pressurization system is a universally powered, globally certified system for Zone 2/22 and Division 2 hazardous areas. It not only provides purged pressurization protection—it also continuously monitors enclosure conditions, makes automatic pressure adjustments, and provides an output alarm for reliable protection. A high-end yet economical system, it offers unique features for reliable explosion protection in an extremely compact housing. Available as a fully automatic or manual system, the 7500 series can be configured with four pressure points in five selectable programs. The large, multi-feature touch display enables convenient setup and gives users access to key parameters. In addition to the display, status LEDs simplify operation with visibility from a distance of up to 70 feet. The extended temperature range of -40 °C to +70 °C, combined with a rugged housing, makes the 7500 series a perfect solution for the oil and gas industry.

    VisuNet IXD 2100 HMI

    The VisuNet IXD 2100 HMI from Pepperl+Fuchs offers reliable performance in harsh environments. The VisuNet IXD can be used in direct sunlight and in temperatures of up to +60 °C. The 19-inch high brightness display has an optically bonded touch screen that minimizes reflections and improves image quality and contrast. The optional sunshield counteracts direct sunlight. The VisuNet IXD can withstand temperature changes ranging from -20 °C to +60 °C, making it impervious to challenging weather conditions, and the marine grade aluminum housing is optimized for the outdoors, preventing corrosion in rain, snow, or marine environments. A key advantage of the VisuNet IXD is its modular design. It consists of a display, power supply, and computer, and enables operators to replace components independently in the event of a failure or upgrade. The VisuNet IXD is the lightest in the industry, weighing only 50 pounds, and is certified for ATEX/IECEx Zone 1/21 hazardous locations.

    VisuNet RM Shell 5 Firmware

    VisuNet IXD Remote Monitors are equipped with VisuNet RM Shell 5, the latest generation of firmware for Pepperl+Fuchs’ thin client solutions. The VisuNet RM Shell 5 firmware is pre-installed and pre-configured for various control systems. This makes it quick and easy to get Pepperl+Fuchs thin clients up and running. The latest generation of VisuNet RM Shell is based on Microsoft® Windows® 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB, which includes long-term security updates from Microsoft. In addition, VisuNet RM Shell 5 comes with integrated security mechanisms that protect the system from malware and viruses.

    Viator HART Modems

    Viator HART modems offer a reliable solution for commissioning and servicing HART devices. Viator interfaces, available in both general-purpose and hazardous-location models, are the perfect link between a PC or handheld and HART-capable devices. These economical HART communicators combine ease of use, portability, and advanced features to support technicians during commissioning and servicing of field devices. Each compact, lightweight modem is packed with functionality and remarkably easy to connect and use. All models are made of durable, industrial-grade polycarbonate and are compatible with 32- and 64-bit Windows® 7, 8, XP, 10, or Vista.

    HART Communicator Kit for Hazardous Areas

    Pepperl+Fuchs is introducing a new HART communicator kit for hazardous areas, including CSA, ATEX, and IECEx certifications. The kit uses the popular Tab-Ex® series of Android tablets from Pepperl+Fuchs’ ecom brand, along with a Viator HART modem, and the DevComDroid DD-based smart communicator app for Android. The HART communicator kit provides a full-feature productivity platform at a price lower than that of a single HART communicator.

    The DevComDroid app is a full-functionality HART communicator that comes preloaded on the Tab-Ex tablet. Other apps are available from the ecom instruments website or from the Google Play Store. With the addition of device management, inspection, and safety apps, the Tab-Ex becomes more than a HART communicator. It turns into a versatile, time-saving tool for hazardous areas in the oil and gas industry.

    EJB/GUB Ex d / Explosion-Proof Certified Enclosures

    Pepperl+Fuchs offers a broad portfolio of electrical equipment and solutions for installing and controlling machinery and electrical networks in harsh environments and hazardous areas. The EJB and GUB series of Ex d certified enclosures provide optimal protection for any installation. These sturdy, flameproof / explosion-proof enclosures are made from aluminum or stainless steel, which provide increased corrosion resistance. The durability and the comprehensive selection of available sizes make the EJB and GUB enclosures suitable for the oil and gas industry. Additionally, the enclosures’ triple certifications, including global approvals, make this choice a no-brainer.

    Type 4X Rated Cable Glands

    Pepperl+Fuchs’ industry-leading cable glands for Division 2 and Zone 1/21, 2/22 applications are now UL (Underwriters Laboratories) Type 4X rated. Pepperl+Fuchs’ Type 4X rated cable glands are designed to withstand some of the harshest conditions in process automation, including extreme temperatures, total washdown, and exposure to corrosive materials. They are available for hazardous areas and general industry; can accommodate armored and non-armored cabling; and are offered in nickel-plated brass and stainless steel. Cable glands from Pepperl+Fuchs are renowned for their uniform design and internally secured armor clamps, which prevent the glands from falling apart when opened. With the new Type 4X rating, Pepperl+Fuchs now offers glands that are ATEX and IECEx certified and UL Listed.

    K-System Interface Technology

    Pepperl+Fuchs’ K-System interface technology offers the broadest product range of its kind, has the right solution for every requirement in the process industry, and is designed for a mixture of applications involving both Ex and non-Ex modules. The modules are easily snapped onto a DIN mounting rail and can be energized by both terminals and the unique Power Rail®, which also transmits a collective error message for improved performance. K-System isolators offer removable terminal blocks for wiring on the control and field sides, and control elements on the front of the device, making them user-friendly and easy to service. The modules are available in a 12.5 mm wide KC version and a 20 or 40 mm wide KF version.

    This May 6 - 9 at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), Pepperl+Fuchs will be highlighting several sensing technologies for the process industry: RFID tags and read/write heads, patented 2:1 technology for hazardous areas, the F31K2 valve position sensor, and the connectivity cable protection system.

    RFID Read/Write Heads

    Pepperl+Fuchs offers hazardous location-certified read/write heads in Ex d enclosures and RFID tags for wide-ranging applications in the process industry: from documenting maintenance and managing process chemicals to tracing entire production processes. The standard portfolio offers high-performing RFID components in a variety of housing designs for optimal integration. For example, RFID can help safely transport fluids from storage tanks to process reactors.

    Some highlights of the RFID solutions include a wide variety of cube-style and cylindrical housing designs for optimal integration, comprehensive portfolio of RFID tags for all frequency ranges (LF, HF, UHF), and small tags suitable for very high or low temperatures, excessive wear and tear, and mounting in or on metal.

    Once an RFID system is applied in a process, error-prone manual data collection becomes a thing of the past. This means minimized administrative errors, better transparency, and huge gains in speed.

    Patented 2:1 Technology

    Patented 2:1 technology from Pepperl+Fuchs provides potential savings of 50% on sensor wiring needs in hazardous areas. Signals from NAMUR sensors can be transmitted in pairs to a control device via one line. Two digital sensors are wired anti-parallel to one strand pair that is connected to the switch amplifier.

    System enhancements are another ideal application for 2:1 technology when additional signals are to be routed via existing and possibly at-capacity field wiring. Pepperl+Fuchs also provides this technology in sensor and valve interface modules for fieldbus applications.

    F31K2 Valve Position Sensor

    Quarter turn valves often use two independent sensors to provide valve position feedback. Pepperl+Fuchs’ double sensor, the F31K2, combines two inductive sensors in one modular package that also includes a high visibility beacon for local on/off position indication. This approach reduces installation and maintenance costs. Durable, noncontact, and wear-free detection makes it ideal for harsh conditions. Mounted directly on a valve actuator, they transmit the valve position to a control system, ensuring absolutely reliable processes.

    F31K2 dual sensors are designed for outdoor use with no compromises. The open solution with its highly visible integrated valve position indicator and translucent housing allows status monitoring from a distance. The modular housing design enables easy operation, installation, and diagnostics. The sensor’s unique double-housing design provides double the mechanical protection and a high IP rating; the housing materials ensure high resistance to UV, temperature, and corrosion. NAMUR Ex i (Zone 0/20) and Ex nA (Zone 2/22) versions are available.

    Cable Protection System

    For many applications, safety requirements apply not only to the sensors in use, but also to the cabling. To ensure that connectivity components meet these requirements, the cable protection system from Pepperl+Fuchs offers a perfectly coordinated portfolio of sensor adapters, cable conduit, and cable glands. These rugged components are designed for all standard cylindrical sensors. Regardless of the sensor used, the right cable protection is always available, even for harsh environmental conditions.

    In addition to mechanical impact, pressure, and tensile strain, wiring is often exposed to chemicals.
