Titan and principles of Conservation Oil Company recently met with Governor John Bel Edwards and his staff to move forward to have Titan test its technology on orphaned wells that the State was forced to take over. The financial obligation to pay for the plugging of these wells is now the responsibility of the state. Oil companies that went bankrupt years ago abandoned 4,000 wells. The cost to plug each well is $30-80,000 representing a possible third of a billion dollars expense to the State.

The proposal before the State is simple: Test the Titan Process. If it can revive some of these wells the State could earn royalties, revenue and taxes and pay for the eventual plugging costs of the wells. For every 10 wells revived by Titan, the State would earn $280,000 annually. Over a ten- year period, the impact to GDP in the State by the added revenues and economic activity would amount to $18 million from just 10 wells producing another 5 years.

One can see why this proposal was very well received. Considering that 65% of the oil is still in the ground, the possibility for a major win-win situation is present. In the past Titan has had excellent success reviving “dead” wells. In fact, two revived dead wells were verified in two SPE Papers written by two Titan customers. One well went from zero to 40 bbls. per day. Hunting PLC has signed a collaboration agreement with enhanced oil recovery company Titan Oil Recovery Inc. allowing it to add Organic Oil Recovery (OOR) to its list of TEK-Hub products and technologies focused on enhancing production in late field life.

The OOR process involves stimulating the growth of specific species of indigenous microbes within producing reservoirs, which have the effect of reducing the physical size of trapped oil droplets, enhancing production rates at a fraction of the cost of alternate enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies.

“In the U.K., we are committed to the agenda set out by the OGA [Oil and Gas Authority] to ensure maximized economic recovery from the North Sea. This has led us to add several new production enhancement products and technologies to our portfolio,” Bruce Ferguson, managing director of the Europe & Africa division for Hunting, said in a statement.

We have done our homework on Titan OOR, and on the evidence of a 94 per cent success rate on 48 commercial fields in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Indonesia, we are convinced that this technology can provide a low cost highly effective alternate to mainstream polymer and low saline-based EOR options,” Ferguson said.

“We are very pleased to have established this agreement with Hunting and look forward to working closely with our new partners to maximize economic recovery from ageing oil producing assets in the UKCS, Norway and other global provinces,” added Ken Gerbino, founder and chairman of Beverly Hills, California-based Titan.

Within over 300 production well implementations of OOR, multiple customer authored SPE papers record average oil production increases within the range of 25 per cent to 700 per cent, and costs per incremental barrel of under US$6, the company said. No topside modifications are required for offshore implementation of OOR.

  • Enhanced Oil Recovery

The Titan Process is an advanced and oil recovery process that has been applied to 48 oil fields onshore and offshore with an average production increase of 92% from over 340 well applications.

    Operator Benefits:

    • No Capital Expense
    • Low Cost
    • Production Increases at $6-15 per incremental bbl.
    • H2S reduction
    • Water Cut decreases
    • Biodegradable

What it does in the reservoir:

    • Creates Micro-oil droplets
    • Reduces Interfacial tension between rock/oil/water
    • Changes wettability
    • Reduces H2S creating organisms
    • Acts a tracer for waterfloods
    • “Apparent Viscosity” is reduced
    • Water flood sweep efficiency is improved
    • Pore to pore displacement improves
    • Relative permeability of the rock to water is decreased
    • Relative permeability of the rock to oil is increased
    • Creates reserve additions
    • Changes the decline

  • H2S Suppression Service

The Titan Process can lower H2S levels in a reservoir. The Process is mostly focused on improving oil production, but the technology allows for the increasing of the populations of only certain species of microbes that Titan works with. When specially constructed nutrients are formulated and used in the reservoir, only certain selected species eat the food. Other species do not and that includes the SRB’s.

Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB’s) do not “eat” Sulfates. They actually “breathe” sulfates. They consume the sulfates like humans consume oxygen. Humans also have to eat food. SRB’s also have eat food and that is what they scrounge for in the reservoir competing with other species. After the Titan Process is applied our selected microbes now become dominate in the reservoir. One microbe within 24 hours now becomes billions of microbes via mitosis (cell splitting or propagation). Before one could have ten SRBs and ten Titan selected microbes in a pore space (a simple example). Within 24 hours the ten Titan selected microbes now number 10-20 billion and the SRBs are still at only 10. There is no room at the food table (in this case the chemicals and organic matter in the water within the pore space) anymore as the Titan microbes dramatically crowd out the SRB’s and H2s is reduced.

  • Reservoir Tracers

The Titan Process can also be used for reservoir tracing. Using the microbial populations as tracers is faster, cheaper and more efficient that any other form of tracer technology.

Other tracers can adhere to the cell walls of the pore spaces and require excessive amounts to be effective and could also interact in a negative way with chemical balances within the pore spaces. There are no chemical interactions with the microbial method. Sweep information is 100% confirmed by the microbial changes and monitoring from injector to producers.

The Titan Service will allow operators to not worry about comingled fluid changes and reactions in the reservoir.
