  • In the 12 years since the TD-500D analyzer was first released, there have been significant improvements in LED and photodiode technologies. In 2016 TDHI released the TD-120 Oil in Water Monitor for cooling water and steam condensate processes.  This new monitor features an LED and photodiode-based optical kit, like the TD-500D before it. When coupled with our improved signal handling, the TD-120 offered a wider measurement range of oils and the widest linear range of any monitor on the market.

    With the new optical kit, sensor developments and touchscreen interface, an updated sample analyzer was a natural progression. TDHI developed the TD-550 Oil in Water Analyzer, with the new optical kit, electronics and interface. The TD-550’s single measurement channel has the same oil sensitivities as both channels of the TD-500D combined. For crude oils that are API 45 and heavier, the TD-550, using an 8 mm sample cuvette, produces ideal measurement results.

    TDHI has also received many inquiries for an analyzer capable of measuring light gas condensates (API 45 and lighter), gasoline, lube oil and hydraulic oils. Thanks to the inclusion of improved LEDs, the TD-560 offers a second measurement channel that has spectacular sensitivity to BTEX, fuels, light gas condensates and heavy crude oils.

    Personnel on offshore platforms make a single sample analysis per day from a single location and want a simple device. Operators can turn on the TD-550 or TD-560 analyzer, insert a sample cuvette into the cuvette holder and press read. In addition to the improved sensor capabilities as detailed above, the touchscreen interface has been significantly upgraded. Because the touchscreen tablet has a large internal memory, the new sample analyzers have almost unlimited calibration storage, sample tagging and data logging.

    TDHI has also included support documents and videos on the tablet. With the analyzers’ built in Wi-Fi and USB communications, all the data stored can be easily transferred to a PC. Firmware upgrades can be easily applied by an IT technician if needed. Customers who use a sample analyzer at multiple locations will enjoy being able to have a stored calibration for each site.

  • Turner Designs Hydrocarbon Instruments’ E09 TD-4100XD is an an inherently low maintenance, online oil in water monitor, designed specifically for offshore oil production, refining, petrochemical, and other industries that require robust online hardware for severe duty and hazardous area locations. Skid or wall mounted and constructed of 316 stainless steel, the monitor includes an external keypad for operation in corrosive environments.

    The XD detects and measures natural gas condensates, light refined fuels, crude oil, and many other aromatic hydrocarbons. Detection limits range from low ppb (µg/L) to high ppm (mg/L).

    Compared to laboratory grab sample analysis, online monitoring provides cost effective, continuous, and remote measurement of aromatic hydrocarbons in water. Continuous monitoring provides reliable process management, including detection of hydrocarbons in water, treatment, and discharge.

    Low maintenance

    With no self-damaging ultrasonics,  the optional Clean-in-Place system will clean all the sample lines, with no significant chemical consumption.  The routine maintenance involves changing a lamp twice a year and occasionally validating the measurement with the CheckPOINT Standard.

    Continuous monitoring

    No chemicals, no pre-treatment, and no manual manipulation of the sample are required to monitor aromatic hydrocarbons.

    Accurate measurements

    The monitor can be calibrated to correlate with laboratory or field oil in water measurement methods with simple inputs to the touch pad.

    Sensitive

    Natural gas condensates, BTEX, crude oil, and refined petroleum products are detected by the XD from low ppb (ug/L) to high ppm (mg/L). Typical chemicals added to produced water have no effect on measurements.


    Selective

    The XD only measures hydrocarbons, with minimal interference from solids or turbidity. Set up the XD to target hydrocarbons according to your requirements.

    Dirty water effectiveness

    Fluorescence monitoring makes the XD resistant to interferences from turbid or dirty water, which impact online UV absorption or IR and visible light scatter instruments.

  • At this year's Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), Turner Designs Hydrocarbon Instruments (TDHI) will exhibit its industry leading, flexible product line of oil in water monitors, analyzers and accessories. TDHI will display the newly updated TD-550 and TD-560 Oil in Water Analyzers, the TD-107 Oil Content Monitor (OCM), and new accessories like the Clean-in-Place (CIP) system and TD Sample Thief. Staff will also share insights to the popular TD-4100XD and TD-4100XDC hazardous area monitors as well as the TD-120 industrial applications monitor.

    The TD-107 OCM is a 15 ppm bilge alarm for oily water separators. The monitor is IMO MEPC 107(49) certified and offered through NAG Marine. It comes equipped with a data logger, cell condition monitor, 4-20 mA output for remote monitoring, and a user friendly USB data port.

    The TDHI CIP system chemically cleans the complete sample system from sample take off to the drain. It is self-contained, with no chemical discharge while cleaning. A supply tank contains all chemicals and waste. Both the TD-4100XD and TD-4100XDC will fully control the CIP's functions. The CIP system can be added to an existing monitor or integrated into the design of a new one. TDHI offers custom configurations for hazardous area requirements.

    The TD Sample Thief collects a water sample on command with a manual button push or signal from an online water analyzer or control system. A sample cylinder, sequenced isolation valves and flexible control system allow collecting a discrete water sample for detailed analysis at the operator’s convenience. When the sample is collected, time, date, measured concentration and process conditions are recorded and the operator is alerted. The TD-120, TD-4100XD and TD-4100XDC Oil in Water Monitors are designed for seamless operation with the TD Sample Thief.
