In the Petroleum Structural Engineering® software, wind loads, based on the velocity component approach, and vessel dynamic motions are defined according to API 4F Specification for Drilling and Well Servicing Structures (4th edition). The inertial forces due to the vessel dynamic motion as well as radial, tangential and translational forces due to the acceleration of masses attached to the drilling structures have a significant influence on design and reliability.
Other loads such as seismic, snow and ice loads for far northern extreme weather are also considered for the design of masts, derricks, platforms and substructures.
The design and verification are performed according to the American Standards AISC 360-10 (LRFD and ASD), AISC-LRFD-99 and AISC-ASD-89. The PSE Software accounts for the member axial compression, bending, axial tension and bending, shear as well as torsion and warping design. Specifications for structural steel buildings «ADDENDUM 1» are applicable for what the PSE Software covers.
The Petroleum Structural Engineering® Software accounts for the reduced sectional properties for hollow structural steel sections in the standard AISC section library of the Steel Construction manual AISC Fourteenth Edition. (T eff=0.93 T nominal).
The wind Walls (API 4F-2016) standard implementation is based on clause 184.108.40.206 and table 8 of the API 4F-2016 standard. The wind wall calculation in the PSE software is automated. Wind profile for each wind direction of type API 4F-2016 or API 4F -1995 are permissible.
The Pressure Distribution Method applied with this method API 4F-2016 follows a profile defined in the API specification for drilling and well servicing structures (4th edition) document. The wind speed must be specified as well as the gust coefficient. The gust coefficient is a reduction factor.

The Petroleum Structural Engineering software has a tool to generate wind and ice loads on open structures such as drilling structures. It allows generating automated ice loads or wind loads on each element of the structure. The load generator creates wind and ice profiles for each selected azimuths as well as the corresponding loads.
The PSE software automates wind loads applied to members. These loads are calculated based on the projected area, projected pressures or velocity components approaches. The program offers a variety of wind profiles and automates the determination of the shape coefficients (drag factors). The automation of the drag coefficients is also available for the NBCC-2005, ASCE 7-05, CSA S6-06, HQ SN- 40.1, API 4F-2013 and API 4F-1995 codes. Tools are provided to quickly generate wind profiles acting on several directions.
In the API 4F-2013 code, wind walls behave differently than isolated surfaces. The wind walls implementation is based on article 220.127.116.11 and table 8.6 of the API 4F-2013 code.
