  • Real time monitoring system of drilling fluid properties is developed by Drilling Technology Research Institute, Sinopec Oilfield Service Shengli Corporation. Founded in August 1973, Drilling Technology Research Institute is a key research institute of Sinopec. It is mainly responsible for the research, development and application of oil drilling and completion, oil machinery, new technologies, new tools, new materials and new equipment.

        Over the past 45 years, the Institute has undertaken 983 scientific research projects at or above the Bureau level, and has achieved 797 scientific and technological achievements at or above the Bureau level, including 24 national invention awards and technological progress awards, and 159 provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards. A total of 950 patents have been granted by the state, of which 215 are invention patents and 11 are national patent awards, including 2 gold awards and 9 excellent awards. Six core technology series with unique characteristics have been formed: complex structure well drilling technology, deep and ultra-deep well drilling and completion technology, while-drilling measurement and control technology, drilling and completion fluid and reservoir protection technology, unconventional drilling and completion technology, marine engineering supporting technology. These technologies are in the leading position in China, and some of them have reached the advanced level in the world.

        The Real time monitoring system of drilling fluid property can  measurement 10 parameters in real-time, such as apparent viscosity, plastic viscosity, dynamic shear stress, epidemic index, consistency coefficient, funnel viscosity, drilling fluid density, H+ content, Sulfur ion content, and chloride ion content. The system has four major characters such as real time measurement, continuous recording, automated running and long-distance transmission.

    The Real time monitoring system of drilling fluid performance is divided into three parts, including pump assembly (hose pump, screw pump), drilling fluid performance monitoring instrument and acquisition box. The pump assembly is divided into two parts: hose pump and screw pump. The device can be used in high temperature, humidity and other harsh environments, and has been applied in more than ten wells with remarkable results. It has been continuously used  for high density mud and shows  good stability.

    The instrument has acquired 8 invention patents. It can realize the measurement frequency of one time per second with the maximum measurement error not exceeding ±5% and reaches the international leading level.
