    Parker Introduces Polyflex Nautilus20™ 20,000 psi Umbilical Hose for Deep Subsea Gas and Oil Extraction

    The flexible high-performance solution is qualified according to ISO 13628-5
    and offers collapse resistance above 7,250 psi (500 bar)

    Ravenna, Ohio, February 25, 2019 – The Parflex division of Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, recently announced the availability of its new Polyflex Nautilus20™ umbilical hose developed specifically for deepwater applications in the oil and gas industry.

    Polyflex Nautilus20 offers an unprecedented 20,000 psi (1,379 bar) designed working pressure (DWP) that allows offshore oil and gas companies to overcome the constraints of 15,000 psi (1,000 bar) hoses enabling them to target reserves in deeper waters with higher reservoirs and greater step-out distances. An industry-leading collapse resistance above 7,250 psi (500 bar) combined with its ISO13628-5 qualification make Nautilus20 an excellent choice for operators working in harsh offshore drilling environments.

    “Today’s offshore drilling engineers want solutions that will allow them to do more now and in the future,” said Brian Juhasz, UHP business development manager of Parker’s Parflex  Division. “Parker is continually advancing its hose product offering to meet the expanding challenges of tomorrow. The Nautilus20 series offers a similar weight and bending radius as standard 15,000 psi hoses on the market, but with enhanced performance features”, Juhasz added. “Its smooth-bore, non-sticky cover, for instance, allows bundled hoses to be handled and installed with less resistance. This helps to reduce the risk of abrasion-related problems including damage to the hose cover and shortened life.”

    Parker’s newest offshore hose features a high-performance thermoplastic inner core tube protected by four layers of high-tensile wire reinforcement. With a wide operating temperature range of -40°F to +300°F (-40°C to +150°C), supreme chemical resistance, and an extremely low permeation rate, Nautilus20 is highly suitable for 20,000 psi (1,379 bar) intervention umbilicals, subsea and topside jumpers, and flying leads.

    Additional Nautilus20 hose features include:

    • Meets/exceeds ISO 13628-5/API 17E standards

    • Two hose models:

      • Nominal I.D.: 1/4" (6.4 mm); minimum bend radius of 5.91" (150 mm)

      • Nominal I.D. 1/2" (12.9 mm); minimum bend radius of 11.8" (300 mm)

    • Collapse rating: 1/4" hose > 8,700 psi (600 bar); 1/2" hose > 7,324 psi (505 bar)

    • Change in length at maximum working pressure: +2% / -1.5%

    Parker’s Base Resistant Fluorocarbon Elastomers (BRE) Offer Broad Characteristics for Multiple Sealing Applications in the Oil and Gas Industry

    LEXINGTON, KY, March 26, 2019 –The O-Ring & Engineered Seals Division of Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, today announced the launch of a new Base Resistant Fluorocarbon Elastomer (BRE) technology that offers a broad spectrum of properties to replace current HNBR, A-Type FKM and AFLAS® seals, creating a one-size-fits-all material for oil and gas applications.

    Parker’s new BRE-FKMs, VP306-80 and VP316-90 provide resistance to a broad range of fluids and offer temperature flexibility as low as -10°F, while still maintaining cost effectiveness.

    “The development of the VP306 and VP316 compounds stemmed from a market need for broad performance across multiple areas,” said Nathaniel Sowder, Oil & Gas Business Development Engineer, Parker O-Ring & Engineered Seals Division. “These compounds provide a chemical compatibility spectrum that includes hydrocarbons and high pH fluids that were only previously obtainable with very specialized families that were either very expensive or required compromises in other areas, such as low temperature flexibility or compression set resistance.”

    The seal industry offers HNBR, A-Type FKMs, low temperature FKM’s, AFLAS and FFKM, but these only address a specific niche of a customer’s needs. Parker’s proprietary BRE-FKM material technology offers an extremely broad range of performance for customers requiring simplicity in specifying a material for several different application environments. Additionally, Parker offers a wide range of custom molded shapes and sizes, packer elements, bonded parts, as well as traditional O-rings.

    Parker’s Dissolvable Products Offer Unmatched Performance for Downhole Oil and Gas Applications

    CLEVELAND, April 1, 2019 - The Engineered Materials Group of Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, today announced the launch of a new range of dissolvable and degradable products for the oil and gas industry. Designed to replace traditional composite plugs in downhole applications, these solutions perform to exact specifications and then dissolve completely, eliminating the need to drill down and retrieve the plug after use.  

    The new dissolvable products are made from custom metals, thermoplastics and elastomers created by Parker, and can be tailored to optimize performance and efficiency based on a customer’s specific application.

    Parker’s dissolvable aluminum-based alloys can be used in applications where high-pressure performance exceeding 10 kilopounds per square inch (KSI) is required. This material provides a significant strength advantage over alternative dissolvable metal options and can be customized to suit a wide range of temperature and well fluid conditions.  

    In oil and gas applications, traditional thermoplastics and elastomer materials must perform for extended periods of time at high pressures and temperatures in a wide range of fluids. Parker’s new degradable materials address these requirements, and are also designed to break down into small particles without impeding flow within the well or clog commonly used filters.
