David Ramsay, President and Managing Director, established Kelvin TOP-SET in 1986 to help companies learn from incidents and improve operating processes. He has a wide industrial and consultancy expertise at senior level and his qualifications include technical and business degrees as well as other skills including air-crash investigation.
Q. Please start by telling us a bit about the company, a brief history of Incident Investigation and an overview of your business today.
A. Kelvin TOP-SET has operated around the world and in numerous industries for 30 years. Our primary focus is the teaching of incident investigation with the aim of improving safety, reducing downtime, and improving operational effectiveness. Headquartered in Scotland with an office in the USA and a presence in Brazil, we also have consultants in several other countries. Operating in in over 40 countries, TOP-SET is a leading expert in incident investigation.
Q. Please tell us about the company’s products
A. We do 3 things: 1) we teach incident investigation courses at varying levels depending on client’s requirements 2) we lead and facilitate investigations and 3) we offer world-leading incident investigation software.
Courses are offered in the UK, USA, Middle and Far East and are also available in-company. The highly interactive courses lead participants through every aspect of investigation so that they can effectively investigate workplace incidents. To support the courses we have an e-learning Root Cause Analysis programme and various other software products.

A. It’s not what we say, but what our customers say; “Simple to use with consistent results”. Also, we hold appropriate ISO Standards and offer steps to Certificate in Professional Development (CPD).
