APS ... Engineering Solutions through Science!!

Applied Physical Sciences Corporation (APS) is a growing research and development company specializing in innovative technology solutions for emerging challenges in both national security and commercial markets. The foundation of our problem solving approach is a fundamental understanding of physics and advanced mathematics.

  • FutureWaves®
FutureWaves® is a real-time system for the sensing and forecasting of ship deck motion. The customized X-Band radar provides deck operators with the real-time information they need to lift, launch, recover and transfer equipment safely and confidently....

  • FutureWaves® is the commercial variant of a system developed for the US Navy by Applied Physical Sciences Corp of Groton, CT USA.  FutureWaves® uses a customized X-Band radar, innovative real-time signal processing and real-time vessel motion modeling to enable accurate measurement and forecasting of local wavefields and the resultant vessel deck motions out to 60+ seconds.  The system was developed under funding from the Office of Naval Research as the Environment and Ship Motion Forecasting (ESMF) system, primarily to support safe Seabasing operations in limiting sea states. FutureWaves®,

    • Measures local wavefields using a customized X-Band radar (can also serve as a marine navigation radar)
    • Provides heading/course recommendations to minimize motions of interest
    • Monitors and records 6DOF vessel motions and key environmentals of wind and sea state for trend analysis and operational advisement
    • Employs innovative real-time signal processing to forecast incident wave energy at the platform and/or along the ship’s track
    • Uses the incident wave energy and real-time vessel motion modeling to enable accurate forecasting of the resultant vessel deck motions out to 60+ seconds
    • Provides queuing information for upcoming quiescent periods or conversely, imminent excessive motions

Beyond skin-to-skin operations, FutureWaves® has applicability in offshore heavy lift and construction, launch and recovery of helicopters, small boats, and manned and unmanned vehicles from stationary or moving platforms.

The CoHerent Acoustic Modulatable Projector (CHAMP) System is a coherent sound source for marine seismic surveys. The system development is funded by ExxonMobil, Shell, and Total and is closely associated with U.S. Patent No. 9,562,982....

  • Applied Physical Sciences Corp. (APS) is showcasing the CoHerent Acoustic Modulatable Projector (CHAMP) System at the 2017 Offshore Technology Conference, held in Houston TX.  Scientists and Engineers from APS will be on hand to present the system and answer questions regarding this exciting marine seismic survey technology.  A scale model of the CHAMP projector will be on display within the APS booth.  The CHAMP System is funded by ExxonMobil, Shell, and Total and is in its third year of development.  APS is currently assembling a full-scale, integrated CHAMP node, with performance and endurance testing scheduled for 2017.  For more information please send an email to
