We started our business with a focus on precision machining technology applied to high-strength metallic materials used in aerospace products. With the aim of becoming a company that solves social issues and serves society, we have grown while pursuing and developing precision technology and precision manufacturing in the Aerospace, Industrial Equipment, and ICT businesses.

The ICT Business develops and manufactures MEMS and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The Sumitomo Precision Products group is a leading company in deep silicon etching equipment, which is indispensable for MEMS production. By utilizing the MEMS manufacturing equipment, we develop high-precision sensors and other MEMS device/Sensors.

In fiscal 2021, among our MEMS device and sensors, we succeeded in developing Northfinder and begun to market it. This product is a gyrocompass that enables drilling with restrained energy consumption, targeting precious metals and rare metals that are essential for the popularization of EVs as we move toward realizing the carbon free society.

In fiscal 2023, we will improve this product and market it in the high temperature Oil and Gas industry. The wireline tools which accomodates the Northfinder enables drilling service more conventional. The Bottom Hole Assembly which accomodates the Northfinder enables drilling service more efficient.

Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd. has developed a new MEMS-type small-diameter “Northfinder™A” that can be installed in measurement tools for downhole survey and mapping.

The Northfinder™A can find the geographical north pole of earth axis in order to measure the earth’s rotation using 3-axes gyro (angular velocity) sensor and 3-axes accelerometer under any attitude. The strengths offered is to contribute the high accuracy directional measurement to overcome the weakness that the magnetic compass used in conventional tools has been faced uncontrollable measurement errors due to surrounded magnetic fields.

Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd. has developed a new MEMS-type downhole navigation tool “Northfinder™X” that is suitable for downhole survey and mapping such as Wireline and Slickline.

Northfinder™X can be used immediately and achieve maximum accuracy. Northfinder™X is accurate without worrying about the effects of magnetic fields because our MEMS gyroscope is used. Northfinder™X has user-friendly apps to operate the tool and check the measurement results. Northfinder™X is Multifunction and also our mapping software is included. Northfinder™X can be used in any posture, such as vertical holes, horizontal holes, or inclines.

Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd. has developed an extensible “Attitude angle & true north detector gyro unit “Northfinder™B” by MEMS type that is suitable for machine guidance, navigation and control.

As a result of many years of MEMS research and development, “Attitude angle & true north detector gyro unit 『Northfinder™』” are smaller, tougher, and less expensive than those using RLGs or FOGs. These models are extensible to accommodate an additional sensor module kind in order to support your needs.

Attitude angle & true north detector gyro unit Northfinder™B can output real-time attitude and heading angles without GPS and calculate attitude angle (roll/pitch angle) and azimuth angle (yaw angle) with high accuracy.
